PRIVATE ESTATE’S EXQUISITE 4 ACRE GARDENS OPEN FOR CHARITY
Specialist Plant Fair and Open Gardens
Culland Hall, Culland, Ashbourne, Derbyshire DE6 3BW
SUNDAY 8th JUNE 2014, 11am – 4pm
Entrance: £5.00. Children Free. Free Car Park.
Tucked away down a winding Derbyshire lane lies Cullan.d Hall and its’ exquisite 4 acre gardens. Nurtured over the past twenty years by owner Lucy Thompson, this gem of a garden is open just one day each year in aid of local charity Mid Derbyshire Association for Mobile Physiotherapy – a charity close to Lucy’s heart.
It is pretty rare to find a garden offering quite so much - over 100 varieties of roses (look out for Konigin von Danemark), a Victorian walled kitchen garden, woodland walk, colour-themed borders inspired by Sissinghurst, amongst others, and a huge selection of rare and specialist plants. All this sits majestically, surrounded by lake and parkland, under Culland’s beady-eyed flock of Lleyn and Jacob ewes.
Those inspired by the gardens can purchase specialist and unusual plants from over 20 Exhibitors – some of whom are RHS listed. Further stalls offering antique garden furniture, watercolours and, for the first time, visitors will be able to purchase Gertrude Jeykll’s exquisitely designed Munstead flower vases – recently re-introduced to the market by her great-great niece, Christina Freyberg.
Weary after exploring all four acres of gardens….then visit the 19th Century walled kitchen garden for tea and cakes – all home-made by the enthusiastic committee – who, at last year’s Open Gardens raised an outstanding £6,000 for MDAMP.
With free parking and a veritable army of wheelbarrow- wielding Scouts willing to ferry your purchases to the car, Culland’s classical charm offers an idyllic day out for all the family.
Culland Hall is just 6 miles south of Ashbourne and 7 miles north of Derby, off the A52 at Brailsford.
